About the coffee producer
In June, we visited Zou Zhou Yuan (鄒築園), one of the pioneering coffee estates in Alishan. Situated at 1,300 metres above sea level, the farm is owned and operated by the Tsou (鄒族) indigenous people. For many years, they have been at the forefront of innovation—experimenting with new processing methods and cultivating unique hybrid varietals. Their achievements have gained international recognition: in 2024, Zou Zhou Yuan’s Geisha lot won 3rd place in the prestigious Taiwan Cup of Excellence and sold for an astonishing USD $145.50 per pound (USD $320.80 per kilogram) at auction.
This year, we are delighted to introduce a very limited release: Festival, a washed Typica coffee handpicked by the Tsou in 2025. This remarkable lot reveals delicate notes of pomelo and white flower, finishing with the complexity of oolong tea. It stands as a testament to Taiwan’s growing reputation as a true speciality coffee origin, and we are honoured to share this extraordinary coffee with you.
About the producing country
Taiwan has a long and celebrated history of cultivating high-quality tea, thanks to its mountainous terrain and subtropical climate. In the late 20th century, however, local farmers began turning their attention to specialty coffee in response to rising domestic demand. Since then, the industry has developed rapidly, positioning Taiwan as one of the rising stars in the global coffee world.
Some of Taiwan’s finest specialty coffees are grown in high-altitude regions such as Alishan in Chiayi County, renowned for producing complex coffees with elegant floral profiles. Beyond coffee, Alishan is also a National Scenic Area that attracts over two million visitors each year.
